Charleston, South Carolina Guide.

Charleston South CarolinaCharleston.

Roaming around this city I wanted to take a picture of absolutely everything. The city is full of beautiful clean and colorful architecture. Palmettos, the state tree, line the streets and give it a lush green feeling.

When visiting this city there are two main streets that I would recommend walking around King St and Meeting St. Here you will find many shops and beautiful builds to start off your trip.

Visit the water in a couple different areas! I highly recommend straying from the main streets and seeing the amazing architecture this city offers. Definitely visit the specific Waterfront Park, there you can sit on the dock swings and enjoy the view.

Visit my “top sites to see” list at the end of this post and plot out your walk around the city. Weave in and out of the side streets along the way. Many of the buildings in the city were painted with bright pops of color, especially the iconic Rainbow Row.

If you want to see more of the city quickly I thought renting a bike and riding around city streets could be a great option.

Food!

Restaurants* off King St and Meeting St that you won’t want to miss:
*Check out the photo gallery at the end of the post for more food and restaurant pictures

  • Jestine’s Kitchen: A must with some classic southern style cooking
  • Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit: Fun mix of homemade specialty biscuits
  • Brown Dog Deli: Dog friendly cafe with good food and cute dogs
  • Blossom: Upscale restaurant with great selection of southern cooking
  • Millers All Day: Cute retro styled restaurant (moon cake is a must!)

Sullivans Island.

About 20 minutes away by car is Sullivan’s Island. Previously, the city held ties to Edgar Allen Poe so naturally we grabbed lunch at Poe’s Tavern. The menu has tons of burgers named after Poe’s work.

Boone Plantation.

One of the day trips took us to Boone Planation, about a 30 minute drive outside of Charleston. At the beautiful plantation we got to tour the main house, go on a tractor ride around the property, and learn a little bit about the history. As an FYI this plantation was a filming location for The Notebook and the wedding venue for Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds!

Beaufort.

We made another stop on our way out of South Carolina in a little town called Beaufort. It’s another city right on the port. The stop lasted maybe a few hours as we grabbed lunch and did a bit of shopping. I loved the boutique we shopped at here and bought some staple wardrobe pieces. It’s Retail Therapy was the shop name.

Hilton Head.

The last stop, also a quick one, was in Hilton Head. We drove to see the iconic Harbor Town Light House. It was painted plaid for the RBC heritage celebrations. Fun Fact: when you look up Hilton Head on Google Maps the image that pops up with it was taken by my dad.
