Southernmost Point in the Continental US.
Key West is the Southernmost city in the contiguous US. It is an island that is about 1×4 miles long.
You can walk down one of the main streets, Duval St. There are tons of touristy stores and restaurants to stop at.
If you make your way to one end of the island you will see the Southernmost Point in the Continental US. A monument marks its place.
NOTE: We visited on a Saturday and there was a huge line to take a picture in front of it.
On the opposite side of the island is Mallory Square. A great spot to walk around and eat. I even found a cute ornament for my travel collection here.
You should stop here in the evening to enjoy the sunsest pier. Florida always has the best sunsets!
Lighthouse.
You have to go to the top of the lighthouse, the view is stunning! The cost is $10 per adult.
To the top you will climb 88 steps, then enjoy a 365° view.
Entrance fee includes the keepers house as well.
Check our my Key West video to see us enjoying the lighthouse views.
Ernest Hemingway House.
The iconic American writer owned a residence in Key West. It remains as a museum you can pay to enter. Purchase tickets for $16.
Right in Key West you will find mile market zero. Here is the beginning of US 1. Most gift shops in the area sell green and white Mile 0 souvenirs.
You can start here and drive though major sities like Washington DC, Boston, & Portland, Maine. Definitely a cool stop to make while in town.
From here you can walk up a block to Duval Street, as mentioned above. Everything in the main area is in walking distance. If you prefer not to walk you can book a Trolley Tour.
