48 Hours in Switzerland.

Zurich Switzerland

Switzerland.

Around Christmas time I was craving travel and really wanted to see some real European Christmas markets. Last minute my dad decided to jump on the trip with me, as it is one of his favorite countries.

Zurich.

Located on the north side of Lake Zurich, this city met all my expectations. I enjoyed taking the train into the city and seeing the buildings in the hillside. It was the perfect chilly temp for walking around, and felt very wintery. At night the city really lit up with all of the Christmas decorations and people visiting the markets.

Climbing church towers is always a must. It is such a great way to see a top view of the city. We chose Grossmunster Church, quick climb for a great view.

There were shops to stop at all over the city. People were also roaming about in the evening and the city was so alive.

Lucerne.

From the city center of Zurich it is a 45 minute train ride away. Tickets are around $30. I am a huge Wes Anderson fan and this city was really giving me some Grand Budapest Hotel vibes. My favorite shot of the city has the bridge covered river.

We walked to the top of the hill, which has an old city wall. This is the climb in Lucerne I would recommend to you because it will also give you a view of the city.

Mt. Pilatus.

Most of the day was really foggy so we debated going up to the top of the mountain. Last minute we hopped on a bus near the city center in Lucerne and bought tickets to go up right before it closed. The sun was setting and it was an incredible view.

The ride up was so foggy, but as we gained altitude we emerged from the fog and the view on top was crisp and clear.

Zurich Switzerland

Christmas Market.

Both cities we visited had Christmas markets, which is exactly why I came to Switzerland for. We loved walking around in the chilly December weather and looking at all the shops and food. Take a look in my photo gallery to see more of the market highlights.

Food!

Throughout the trip I ate so many pretzels, but they were so yummy. We also enjoyed some yummy treats. I was not sure what they were called but they were chocolate covered cream filled. Also, we stopped for some fondue in Zurich with amazing cheese.
