South America.
Out route to get there was Chicago-Miami-Buenos Aires (EZE)-car ride- Buenos Aires (AEP) -Ushuaia. There are two airports in Buenos Aires so flying into EZE we used Uber to get to AEP.
Latam has flights AEP-USH and ZED so we used our employee benefits (Aerolineas is another option).
The Uber ride was about $24 USD and took an hour. By the time we got to AEP the flight closed so we missed the only direct flight of the day. We stayed the rest of that day in Buenos Aires and left on the flight that left the next morning. The ZED was about $60 going down.
Using ID90 the hotel was around $100 a night and was located in the downtown area. It had a bedroom and living room area with a little kitchen and a view of the water. They have taxis at the airport you can use to get to your lodging. Make sure to get cash out (Argentinian pesos) because taxis take cash. I believe the taxi to and from about about $12 both times.
The town itself is very small so it does not take much to walk it. This city is very geared towards doing some type of excursion, hiking, or enjoying the outdoors. Since flying standby you don’t know if you will get on it is hard to plan ahead and the penguin excursion I wanted to go on was booked.
Instead of seeing penguins the next best option was to go for a plane ride and see the city and mountains from above! Aeroclub Ushuaia, located at the small airport about a 15-20 minute walk from downtown. The weather was good so the plane ride was booked the same day and they charge $155 per person for an hour long ride. Alternative option is $95 per person for 30 minutes. Well worth the money, the views were INCREDIBLE, I even got to fly the plane a bit.
