Savannah, Georgia.

Savannah.

Took a trip down to the peach state for family vacation. Navigating the city was super easy, as it was built on a grid system. Every couple blocks there are beautiful parks so there is no lack of scenery while making your way around the city.

We did Savannah in combination with Charleston and all the South Carolina adventures. Check out my previous post to get a rundown on South Carolina. Keep reading to get more info on our time in Savannah.

City layout.

As mentioned above, every couple blocks you will find a park to walk around and enjoy the big trees and fountains while chilling on a park bench.

There is one bench that may ring a bell for some of you. Savannah is known for being the filming location for Forest Gump. The iconic bench scene was filmed in Chippewa Square. The bench is no longer there but the statue behind is recognizable.

Free Ferry.

Savannah Belles Ferry is a free ride that you can take along the riverside. There are three stops it makes, so you can stay on the whole time and end right where you started. It was a perfect way to see the city skyline and we rode while the sun was setting.

St. Patty’s Day.

Depending on your source, Savannah is rated one of the top places in the US to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Irish flags were being hung all around the city in the week leading up to the celebration. The numerous fountains found all over the city are filled with green water to commemorate the holiday. I am a little biased because Chicago really does it big on St Patty’s day, but someday it would be fun to experience it in Savannah.

Houses: Historic and Haunted.

Rumor has it that Savannah is home to some haunted houses. If ghost stories and haunted houses are your thing, companies offer haunted tours that will give the lowdown on “haunted” houses found all over the city. Aside from the spooky mansions there are many other gorgeous houses found in the city as you walk from one city square to the next.

Take a look through the photo gallery found at the bottom of the page to see more Savannah homes. In the top sites section you can find a list of a few historic houses. If the spooky history is of it interests, you hop on a haunted house tour while you’re visiting Savannah.

Tybee Island.

On route we took a quick tour of the filming location of The Last Song. Apparently this was the trip of Nicholas Sparks movie filming locations! We found the house that was used as the main characters house and then walked along the main pier. It was chilly out so definitely not tourist season yet, basically empty.
